Milk PMS advertisements froth over with debate

Monthly sessions from premenstrual syndrome are unpleasant for many ladies. What has also proven unpleasant for several individuals is an ad campaign from the California Milk Processor Board, reports Yahoo! News. The controversial campaign - which has been called both prejudiced and scientifically questionable - suggests men should run out and buy PMS ladies as much milk as they can before the start of domestic Armageddon. Source of article - Milk Board PMS ad campaign stirs controversy by Newsytype.com.

Drown the PMS in milk

There is an interesting California Milk Process Board PMS campaign. It implies that ladies can keep away from premenstrual syndrome symptoms if drinking milk. Milk should be bought for females. Guys should be getting it for them. Billboards, a site (EverythingIDoIsWrong.org), radio advertisements and more depict "blame-casting wives and girlfriends" and the male who supposedly can save them with the magic of a gallon of milk.

There is one man who has a knowing grin on his face in an ad. He then states "We can both blame me."

Is it sexist?

Many see that both males and woman are made fun of in the milk PMS ads, while some are upset that they are "sexist" or inaccurate.

Steve James, the executive director of the California Milk Processor Board, maintains his company's innocence:

"It was certainly not meant to be offensive," he told the AP. "None of the humor is aimed at women. The humor is aimed at how clueless men are in dealing with emotional situations."

The board has pointed to a 1999 study by from the Journal of American College of Nutrition that suggests there is real PMS-mollifying power in cow's milk. However, as Dr. Sheri Zidenberg-Cherr of UC Davis states, the connection is doubtful at best.

Other controversy

This isn't the first time claims in milk advertising have generated debate. In the past, the milk industry has claimed that nutrients in milk are "important in weight loss," even though this finding was based upon an inconclusive study. According to USA Today, the Milk Board tried to get schools to serve flavored milks in 2009. This is regardless of the belief that links between sugar and childhood obesity are very clearly there.

A significant amount of existing research suggests that large amounts of cow's milk in a young girl's diet introduce substances that unnaturally impact growth through excessive amounts of estrogen, progesterone and prolactin. Milk with rbST (Bovine somatotropin) in it has been protested by many consumer health advocacy groups. This is because research shows that it causes abnormal intestinal growth, allergic reactions and carcinogenic. Milk with rbST isn't carried in many grocery stores anymore.
