As the Web Producer for "Planet Harmony” you will post and manage content and comments on our site.
The Web Producer is a salaried position for one person ready and excited to work on location in Boston, collaborate with the pH team and create and foster a lively news and social networking platform. My Planet Harmony dot com is a place for young people of color to meet and exchange ideas and stay current on environmental issues facing their communities. The Web Manager should be ready to facilitate those conversations and deliver that content in a thorough, dynamic and expedient style. A strong knowledge of content management systems as well as a readiness to adopt/adapt to burgeoning trends in social networking and multi-media delivery of news is highly desirable.
In addition to Web-management responsibilities, our ideal candidate must be fully aware of today's pressing environmental issues, possess a cultural understanding of communities of color especially the Black experience, as well as have a strong background in environmental sciences, technology. The Web Manager will contribute original content to the site and podcast so he or she must have leadership abilities, experience as a public speaker and an ability to explain complicated matters of science and the environment to a predominantly young, lay-audience. Must have demonstrated knowledge of environmental trends and issues, public policy, and politics. We are looking for a candidate that will have a proven passion for community and community building.
Responsibilities
Job tasks include, but are not limited to
· Work with production staff to create original and compelling multimedia programming.
· Participate in regular production meetings with staff.
· Propose and research story/segment ideas for podcast and site.
· Audio/video editing of student or self-produced stories
· Make frequent blog entries as well as contribute to other pH social media
· Arrange and facilitate special live web events such as video and text chats between experts and our audience
· Maintain an open, collegial atmosphere of discussion in comments
· Represent pH at public events at Historically Black Colleges and Universities
Qualifications
· Working well under pressure and effectively managing multiple priorities.
· Dependable and flexible to perform unscheduled assignments and work odd hours to ensure all deadlines are met without sacrificing output quality.
· Proven ability to work well in a collaborative team environment as well as independently.
· Ability to develop an overall story-arch and tell stories creatively using sound & music to add texture, imagery
· Ability to juggle subject matter under the umbrella title of "environment.
· Excellent communication and organizational skills.
· Strong interest and knowledge of news, environmental news and passionate about reporting on under-served communities of color.
